Our Story

In March 2019, Lauren Rivers founded The Rivers Foundation to engage the community, share her passion for world languages with others and address the growing need for language education in order to compete in a global economy. Lauren realized the power that language has to break down barriers and build communities and her vision in founding Rivers Foundation has been to use language as a tool to foster greater understanding of our world and bring peace through communication and mutual understanding.

Our Mission

The Rivers Foundation is a U.S. Based 501 (c ) (3) Not-For-Profit Organization with an international focus whose mission is to promote and support students’ study of global languages in general, and French, Spanish and Chinese in particular, to develop language proficiency for further education, to develop the global workforce, and to use language as a tool to help foster greater understanding of our world.

Rivers Foundation seeks to address its world language learning concerns which include:

  • Promoting the study of languages in general, and French, Spanish, and Chinese in particular.
  • Improving the language learning of students by helping to create opportunities for exposure to the French and Spanish-speaking world through cultural exchanges, volunteer projects, and study abroad opportunities.
  • Advocating for implementation of world-language learning in elementary and national standards in the classroom.
  • Creating opportunities and finding resources for practicing teachers to update their skills and improve their teaching
  • Establishing partnerships to improve the training of French, Spanish and Chinese teachers by encouraging minimum levels of language and cultural proficiency and exposure to the French and Spanish-speaking world through language conferences and study abroad opportunities.
  • Encouraging use of new technologies in the teaching of French, Spanish and actively finding material to support this use.
