14 Feb Nevisian-Led Rivers Foundation Expands Global Language Scholarships and Launches First-Ever Foreign Language Educator Excellence Award
CHARLES TOWN, WEST VIRGINIA, USA — February 1, 2026 — The Rivers Foundation, founded by Nevisian native and Charles Town, West Virginia resident Lauren L. Rivers, announces the expansion of its global language education initiatives, increasing support for students and recognizing excellence among foreign language educators across Nevis in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Since 2019, the Foundation has awarded three scholarships to students demonstrating strong academic promise and has funded an annual US$600 subscription to Linguascope, a UK-based interactive language learning platform. This investment has supported more than 1,288 students and teachers at Gingerland Secondary School, Nevis, St. Kitts and Nevis.
In May 2026, the Rivers Foundation will award three Global Language Scholarships, each valued at $3,000, to first-, second-, and third-form students. Each scholarship includes:
- $1,500 for tuition and lunch support
- $750 for a 12-month mentoring program, and
- $750 Value of Kipling backpack with school and foreign-language learning supplies.
“Receiving this scholarship gave me more than financial support; it gave me belief in my potential. The skills and confidence I gained continue to shape my growth. Today, I work as an Electrical Engineering Technician and remain determined to earn my bachelor’s degree,” said Hujay Jeffers, former Rivers Foundation scholarship recipient.
In a new milestone, the Foundation will also launch the Rivers Foundation Educator Excellence Award, the first award dedicated to foreign and modern language teaching excellence on Nevis. The award will recognize an educator with a minimum of three years of teaching experience who demonstrates instructional excellence, student engagement, innovation, and leadership in promoting global and Caribbean awareness.
“These initiatives reflect our belief that language education empowers individuals and strengthens communities,” said Lauren L. Rivers, President and CEO of The Rivers Foundation. “By supporting students, investing in digital resources, and honoring exceptional educators, we aim to create lasting educational impact across the Federation.”
